881 & paddling!
just came back from the soup restaurant with family, an advance celebration for a certain someone turning eighteen. we were qte ambitious with the number of dishes we ordered, to the extent that the waitress had to advise us to reconsider our orders as she glanced at the five of us nervously, clearly having little faith in our appetites. indeed the servings was worth the money. then john little was apparently having this storewide 20% discount and it sent my mummy into a frenzy."ehhh twenty percent off leh! see you need anything or not better buy. this one at home dont have already right? quick take. see last piece already, you dont want people want ah. oh that one at home also finishing right, better buy now. must make use of the twenty percent mah."
(i hope i dont become like that when i grow up!)
so at the end of the day mummy bought some expensive facial product for my dad.
"pls lahhh daddy's face so nice for who to see?"
"aiyah for me to see lahh. apply this then face will be smooth smooth mah."
daddy retorted, "pls hor, i dont want to look like sissy."
haha. oh let me recount a small incident as we were walking to dinner. there was this couple in front of me on the escalator who were sharing some private joke and giggling and shoving each other. nevermind. when we got off at the next level they were still at it and the best part was that they were persistently in my way, hitting each other playfully, arms entangled, teasing and squealing. dont know what came over me but out of sheer exasperation (it was a damn crowded place lahh and it was way past my dinner time) i let out an audible exclaimation, "wah lauu." that did it. my bro was a bit stunned, he went, "jie, you attitude ah?" haha cant help but get reminded of the times i was damn fierce to boats that block my way on waters.
speaking of which, this morning was the 1st time in a long while that i felt truly alive. headed to good ol' macritchie to paddle with rimmel! haha same boat, same paddle, same seat, same config, different partner but it felt darn good! relax paddle with the wind in ur face, talking abt anything & everything under the sun, help save ppl, look out for juniors.. momentarily it seemed i dint have a care in the world. sadly, we had to be transported back to reality again. mel you're still as bimbotic as ever lahh, really go manicure! :D
as for ytd, my mum brought my sis & i to watch 881. the hokkien convos really cracked me up, really get a kick out of hearing the dialect in its purest form (: haha there was alot of local flavour in it, the setting and costumes were colourful and attention-grabbing. i'll never look at getai the same way again. though the plot was nothing fanciful, there was a tinge of poignancy throughout, esp the long meaningful pauses where the characters' silence spoke volumes. i thought qi yuwu was good, despite his relatively insignificant role but he tied the story tgt well and he was the ideal choice to pull off the broodiness. support local production man!
& the excitement dies here.
